Chel shifted in her sleep, not wanting to wake up. She'd actually had a nice dream for once, one of her family. But sleep would not come again, so she opened her eyes. Huh, new room. She sat up and looked around, a little startled when she saw Dimitri on his bed. Immediately she knew Korso was trying to get something out of them to use again. Well, he would be disappointed. She was not getting close to anyone in here again.

Not bothering to wake him up, she decided to check out what was behind the other door. She tiptoed across the cell and poked her head in. A bathtub! She wasted no time in closing the door and getting a bath drawn, then stripped off her dirty clothes. It had been some time since she'd had a bath or shower, and she was dying to have one again. When the tub was full, she slipped in and melted in relief.

"Oh, Dios mio!" she sighed, closing her eyes.

Dimitri had not slept heavily for weeks. He had not dared in the same cell as Anastasia, constantly wondering what she would do to him if he were to fall asleep. Therefor it had come as a surprise once he woke to realize he had slept through the night. The surprise faded once he felt the faint, recognizable headache indicating there had been a cellmate swap.
Even so he didn't turn to look at the room, didn't check to see who his cellmate was. He was simply glad he had gotten away from Anastasia alive, but a part of him was wondering if he'd be better off dead instead.
He heard the sounds of the water and knew he was in a cell with a nice bathroom, but he couldn't feel the happyness it had brought him before. His life was doomed to an eternity in hell, living out each second in fear, pain and emptyness.

After a several minutes of soaking and scrubbing, Chel slipped out of the tub, sitting down on the edge while she wrung her hair dry. She looked around for a towel, but there wasn't any. Well, she supposed it was enough to have a working bath. Instead she just went ahead and put her clothes back on as soon as she was mostly dry. Seeing that he hadn't really moved or anything, she assumed Dimitri was still asleep. Nothing to do really except eat the bread on the table. She missed the delicious food from the garden date. And the wine. And Cillian. Maybe they'd see each other--both alive--in the future.

"Wish they'd let us watch TV..." she thought aloud, laying her head on the table, tracing the lines of her scars.

Dimitri was caught up in his own thoughts and barely even noticed when his cellmate entered the room again. Her voice however hit him like a sledgehammer. He had to be imagining it, but a part of him still wished to see if it was really her.
He turned around to face her, just to see if he was really loosing his mind or not. He must have looked horrible, his eyes red from the lack of sleep if not for crying. He some times wished he could still cry, but it just didn't seem possible anymore. He was all dry.
"Chel?" he said in a voice choked from not speaking in a long time and just waking up.

Chel lifted up her head when she heard him. She noticed his red eyes, the despair reflected in them. He had not been so lucky as her since their separation. Korso had done his worst, had begun to break him if he hadn't already. Damn him. She got up from her seat and slowly moved to his bed, sitting on the side. "The one and only." she said, voice humorless. "Didn't expect to see you again."

He took a while to answer, just stared at her blankly. He was so tired, and not just physically.
"No.." he said flatly. "Me neither." He hadn't expected to see anyone in this prison again, and yet here he was, trapped for all eternity. He was grateful to see her though, so he wouldn't have to watch out for any psycopaths while dealing with his inner turmoils. He just wished he was free again. Suddenly his old, boring life seemed so endlessly perfect.

Chel looked away from those dead eyes, stared down at the cold floor. "I'm sorry you didn't get out." she said, fiddling with the ends of her damp hair. The scrapes she'd gotten from punching the wall back when she was with Meg had been washed clean, though were still a vibrant red. "How did they keep you in?" she asked bluntly. "What bullshit did they come up with?" Could've been something flimsy and they would've gotten away with it. They were the 'good' guys, after all. They were doing good work here, protecting others from the evil inside--or at least she was sure that was what it looked like from the outside.

"Apperantly I murdered someone," he said flatly. At first the thought had hurt, but now he was only dull. Every sensation and pain had dulled down until he felt almost nothing. He didn't know if that was good or not.
"I guess I was the one who got off easy.." He wasn't sure about that either..

"Maybe." Considering the shit that went on here, it was hard to say. There were some things that were worse than death. "Have your cellmates been okay? No one tried to hurt you?" Maybe she shouldn't be acting so concerned, but it was hard not to with his condition. The same happened with Mulan after her friend died. It seemed everyone around her was starting to crack. How long would she last?

His mind went back to Anastasia, who still sparked fear in him even now that she wasn't here anymore. She hadn't harmed him much after the first day, but he still slightly ached after that. She hadn't exactly gone easy on him, as proved by the bruise on his stomach...
He knew very well that his usual self would have complained about it instantly, but at this point he was almost embarrased by that. Chel wouldn't really care, he'd only annoy her. Besides, he wasn't sure if he'd be willing to think back on that right now. More than anything he just wished to shut it all out.
"Yeah, they were good," he said instead and tried to sit up on the bed, rubbing his temples and his eyes.
"And you?" he asked. The first few cellmate swaps after her he'd been worried for her sake, but he realized with shame it had been a long time since he had even stopped to think about her.

"They've been okay. No rapists or crazies. Even had a friend as a neighbor again." She was thankful for that. Besides the games, things had been easy for her. Sort of. "Oh, I met one of your old cellmates. Kuzco. Nice guy." She had liked the compliments. Hopefully he was doing okay. It wouldn't take much for someone to take him out.

He barely registered the name and the face that belonged to it. He hadn't thought of Kuzco in such a long time.. he hoped he was still okay, still alive. Maybe he should hope for the opposite for Kuzco's sake.
He got up off the bed and walked past Chel to the bathroom. Smalltalk was becoming more and more straining. This all seemed like a dream, specially with his lack of sleep. Everything was blurred and seemed so distant, like it wasn't really happening. As if it was all a bad dream.. just a bad dream...
He closed the bathroomdoor behind him, and slumped against the door. What now? Did he really feel like taking a bath? Would it matter? He chose instead to wash his face in the spring. Maybe it would wake him up a little.. but did he even wish to wake up?

His sudden move earned a quizzical look from Chel, who stayed on the bed while he disappeared into the bathroom. This was so unlike the man she'd first met. Sure, he'd been scared, awkward, but at least he seemed to feel something. This was like a robot version of Dimitri or something. Perhaps his cellmates really hadn't been okay...

She wanted to go in there and find out just how bad things had been, how he'd been broken. Maybe start to get him up and running like normal again. But what would that serve? So instead she just sat on the edge of the bed, wringing her hands. Dammit, she wasn't any good. There was nothing she could do to help. And did she even want to, knowing there was no hope for any of them?

"God, I hate being useless..." she mumbled, rubbing her temples.

He finished washing his face and just looked down at the running water in the spring. If only he'd been as small as the waterdrops he could have gotten out of there.. He felt so trapped, so infinately trapped.
He walked back out, his face wet, the water running down his collar, but he didn't seem to even feel it. Once he saw Chel on the bed he realized he had probably been really rude to her and tried shooting her a trying smile. He hadn't been convincing before, and now that he had stopped caring about most things he really weren't any more convincing. It was an attempt though, he hoped she's appreciate that at least.

When he came back, face dripping wet and no expression to suggest he cared, her heart sank even further. Such a far cry from what she first saw months ago. But he flashed her a smile. He was trying. Trying was good. Maybe there was still a little hope. She returned it, thinking if this kept on, he might be somewhat better before the next swap. But what if he got a worse cellmate next time? Would he be beyond repair then? God, she hated this place.

"So, uh... I met Meg. Sweet girl. Seemed really concerned about you." she floundered, wanting to find something light to talk about.

Dimitri froze at the name, every last bit of hope disappearing and a grieve darkness returning to his face and mind.
Amidst all the horror that had occured, all the suffering and pain, he had almost forgotten about the initial blow, but now he could not ignore the gnawing guilt and darkness that devoured him. Why did she have to mention her? Megara would never lay hand on him again, there was nothing he could do about that. He didn't even know if he'd want to change that faith. This place was terrible, not at all a place to form relationships that would very well hurt you in the future. And who would want a broken man...?
"Ahh.." he let out, after a while. He didn't know what else to say, what would matter. "What did she say?"

She noticed the reaction to Meg's name, a little curious how much had gone on. Her drama sense were tingling. "Well, we talked about life before this place. Past boyfriends. How we got here. If we had any bad cellmates. Who to watch out for. How much we hated Korso." Chel said matter-of-factually. "Y'know, the usual things. Girl bonding stuff."

The safe stuff, though. Nothing Korso could really use against them... she hoped. He could be creative. If he'd used those powers for good, he'd be a goddamn hero. The thought brought a wry smile to her lips. "Was kinda worried about her after our game. She's stronger than she looks."

Dimitri nodded in agreement and sat down against the wall on the opposite side of the room to Chel. For once he didn't feel uncomfortable and scared around her. After all that had happened, strangely he felt Chel to be the only person with whom he could feel safe, except for Kuzco.
"I'm glad you're alive.." he said softly, looking down to the floor, lost in his own thoughts. It was nice just talking to her, trying to distract his mind from everything else. He knew there was only so much he could do to forget, but an attempt was better than nothing.

"Really?" Chel blurted out, surprised. "I mean... you hadn't seemed to comfortable around me before..." She nervously played with a few stray strands of damp hair. "But, uh...it's nice to hear that." A nice surprise. Too bad it had taken something like Korso's games to make him realize she wasn't the worst person here. She'd rather he had kept thinking that and go on home, unbroken. No changing that though. "And I'm glad you're alive too." She said sincerely, smiling a little. It barely registered that such words might prove risky.

He flashed a small smile at her before he grew serious once again. His smiles never seemed to last long, and even when he did smile it didn't feel genuine at all. He just hoped she couldn't tell, but he thought her to be smarter than that.
"Would you rather die now, or stay in this prisoner another year and then die?" he asked morbidly. It was a question that had roamed inside his mind for a while. He was far too cowardly to take his own life, but he was starting to wonder if he should really be afraid of the deadly games anymore.

There it was again, the fake smile. It didn't suit in the least. It bothered her greatly. Reminded her too much of the past. But it was gone again as soon as it appeared. Maybe he realized that she could see through it, didn't feel like making the effort anymore.

Chel paused to ponder his words. "Well, considering he'll do his worst, it would probably be best to go ahead and go down..." she admitted, then shrugged. "But when have I ever done things the easy way? I'll drag this out as long as it takes just to piss him off." That was the plan, anyway. No telling what could happen in the future. Maybe he would find a way to break her. Find a chink in her defenses. "Who knows, some official might swing by during a game, find him out. We might make it out alive. And I'd just love to see the tables turned then." she tried.

He smiled again, this time a hint of genuinity shining through. He was glad to see she hadn't broken yet. She spoke just like the Chel he remembered. Even so, he couldn't find any comfort in her words. She was just as tough as she looked, but sadly Dimitri was also just as weak as he appeared.
He looked down on the floor, tracing imaginary patterns with his index finger. Was he really going mad? In his mind everyone else were mad for taking this so calmly. All of this. What had they done in the past to prepare for something like this? To him it was unfathomable, but to everyone else it seemed.. strangely normal...
"I wish I believed you. But good luck with that." He spoke as if he'd already given up. Had he? He wasn't sure himself anymore...

Looking at him, Chel felt unable to keep a good attitude and see something so heartbreaking. She found herself standing from the bed, walking over to him, and throwing her arms around his shoulders, not really knowing how he might react. It was almost a complete reversal of the hug they'd first shared months ago, after her nightmare and the revelation of her past. Strange that she would be the one comforting people. "I'm sorry." was all she could say. She didn't know what else could be said about this. He'd had a comfortable life before Darkstone, hadn't he? No hardships. Nothing to prepare him. He hadn't had any defenses like she did, hadn't yet seen the worst of humanity. She probably seemed to be a human tank, taking damage and feeling nothing. Only half true, unfortunately.

For a moment he sat stunned when she hugged him, but he then wrapped his arms around her as well, hugging her tight to his chest. It was the only comfort he was allowed, the only safety he could find in this place. It was disheartening to think of how easily Korso could pull it away from him again, but the thought only made him clinger tighter.
"Me too," he said into her soft hair. He was hurting her and he knew it. He didn't mean to be this depressing and hurtful, but he no longer held control of the way he behaved. He just wished she wouldn't end up hating him for it.

She closed her eyes when she felt his arms around her. He must've thought of something terrible when he clung tighter. Maybe it was the certain pain waiting for them past those bars, with the next swap, another game. This was only a brief respite. All too soon, he'd be in danger again. And who knew if Kida and Mulan were okay right now? She hated this--caring. Letting someone in. It was only guaranteed to hurt in the long run. So why did she keep doing it? She buried her face in his chest, wishing there was a hole to hide in and forget Korso and his games.
